Transfer Board - Transfer Boardss
Now that you have purchased your wheelchair lift, stair lift and your wheelchair accessible van you are just about ready have free mobility and freedom no matter where you are whether it is around the house, going on a trip with the family or grandkids or just taking a stroll down the street, you now have the feeling of ultimate movement, but there is one very useful device that you should also start looking to purchase and that is a transfer boards. A transfer board is a product that will a wheelchair bound person from their wheelchair to other places like the bed, to the toilet, and other locations within their house. Transfer boards are very easy to use and are small enough to fit on the seat of a wheelchair and once you want to get out from the wheelchair to the bed you just slide the transfer board out and you slide your body across it and onto the bed.
A transfer board is especially useful for people that have stiff backs or massive back pain that wont allow them to use their backs to lift themselves off of the wheelchair but they also make the life of any wheelchair bound user much easier. Also. if you have a caregiver and they also are having back problems, a transfer board will allow them to just slide you across it into the toilet, shower tub or onto a sofa to watch your favorite tv show in total comfortness.
Now that you have a basic idea of what a transfer board is we shall talk about the different types that are currently out there. The most basic transfer boards are the ones that are designed with a stiff piece of wood that can hold under the stress of someone's body weight. They also have ones that are made out of tough plastic or metal boards that also will not bend. These 3 types of basic transfer boards are all designed to contour the body to make it more comfortable to slide the body across it. The better ones out there also have a handle on each side to allow you to grip them while sliding forth from your wheelchair into any area and back into your wheelchair. Transfer boards can also be modified to allow them to be used for specific functions such as sliding into a car seat or having an opposite side that is shaped like your toilet seat to make it very easy to slide into that area.
No wheelchair bound person should ever even think of going anywhere or staying home without a transfer board as they can make life so much easier and give you more self dependency than you ever dreamed of having without one.
